As American As

It’s a short work week for most of us in honor of the 4th of July. So, as my own personal “Happy Birthday, ‘Murica!” tribute, I have put together my first Off Duty holiday post. When I got to thinking about how this could translate into an outfit, I ruminated for a while over what is considered quintessentially American. There’s apple pie, of course, hot dogs, and the national pastime of baseball. I even had a moment where I thought “I can drape the flag around me toga-style”. However, for this post at least, I decided not to be so literal (not to mention that it’s illegal, and I AM a law-abiding citizen). I pondered for a while longer, and then in a flash of brilliance, the old saying “As American as Springsteen” came to mind. Wait...that’s not a saying? Well, it should be. Let’s all collectively commit to making it a thing. See if you can use it in conversation today.

Anyway, if you haven’t already guessed, I have drawn today’s outfit inspiration directly from one of the most recognizable rock album covers of all time. The aptly-titled Born in the U.S.A. by the Boss, Bruce Springsteen. White t-shirts and blue jeans are what this country was built upon. Isn’t it great to know that you can create a simply stylish look that says “I woke up like dis!” with basics that you already have in your closet? Just add a red lip and strappy shoes, and you’ve got yourself a party. It’s time to declare your independence from over-embellished trends and complicated construction!

Now stop looking at my bum in the photo above, you bum-looker, cheeky monkey. It’s time to check out the full outfit below, and have yourself a very Happy 4th!
